Homeopathic Potency

Homeopathic Potency

Potency in Homeopathy refers to the number of dilutions a tincture has undergone in series to prepare the remedy. Potencies are designated by a number and a letter ie. 30C. A solution that is more dilute is considered to have a higher potency, and a solution less dilute is considered to have a lower potency.

Remedies can be prescribed in a single potency, or several potencies of the same remedy combined to call it a Homochord.

Typically, potency of a remedy is prescribed to match the symptoms. In an acute situation, where symptoms may be quite intense, a 200C potency or Fibonacci potency is typically recommended. Similarly, potency can be matched to a person and their current state or vitality, for example, an elderly person lacking vitality, who is feeling fragile, may be prescribed a low potency, versus a young person, who is relatively healthy with a high vitality could suit a high potency.
